Our Deddington care home’s gardening club has sprung back into action for 2022. In fact, some of its produce has been served in the Featherton House dining room already!
Spring 2021 saw a resident-led project to bring Featherton House’s greenhouse back into use come to fruition.
During the summer, everything from lettuce to spinach, and courgettes to sweet peas were grown and enjoyed by the home’s keen gardeners.
Wishing to share the fruits of their labour with the local community, gardening club member Jock Pirie used the home’s greenhouse to grow sunflowers for the village school and nursery. The children were thrilled to nurture them and watch the sunflowers grow.
Shortly after receiving the sunflowers, the school children created a hand-drawn thank you card for Jock and his gardening club colleagues.
With spring 2022 upon us, we’re pleased to announce that the Featherton House greenhouse is back up and running once again.
The home’s very keen gardening club have wasted no time in getting produce to the home’s kitchen. Homegrown lettuce, parsley and radish have already made an appearance in delicious salads served in the home’s dining room.
We’ve been reliably informed, by a gardening club insider, that the runner beans have been planted and the tomatoes are coming along nicely. In addition, the famous sunflowers will be making a return for a second year running!
Featherton House boasts a wheelchair-accessible garden area with raised planters. This ensures that the home’s beautiful walled garden and the gardening club can be enjoyed by as many people as possible.
