A 101-year-old resident has celebrated her birthday surrounded by family, friends and staff.
Judy who was born in Pembrokeshire in 1925 moved to Manchester as a child and then settled in Fareham with her late husband William.
At just 16, she began volunteering with the British Red Cross, working at Gosport War Memorial Hospital before becoming a full-time volunteer aid detachment member during the Second World War. She supported the care of injured servicemen, working alongside pioneering plastic surgeon Sir Harold Gillies.
After the war, Judy retrained as a dental nurse and later worked in the Civil Service. Alongside her career, she dedicated 65 years to the British Red Cross, teaching first aid, supporting blood donor sessions and volunteering in her community.
Her long service was recognised with the Red Cross Badge of Honour.
Judy moved into Featherton House in 2023 to be closer to her family. She remains known for her positive outlook and sense of humour.
Hilda Sanyika, registered manager at Featherton House, said Judy is “full of warmth and humour” and that staff were delighted to celebrate the milestone with her.
